The IAA - new Logo, same sloppiness

The IAA are a rebrand of CIGA. It's the same staff and HQ. So it didn't surprise me one bit to see misleading and or sloppy figures on their website. As we know they have 25 years pedigree of this.

For CWI, IAA are claiming a purported annual savings of up to £610 A YEAR on their web site. Anyone involved in energy would realise this stands out as either a monumental breakthrough in energy efficiency or more likely just more quality control issues at CIGA.

There is no reference to any sources which is poor practice in itself. But, I checked the Energy Saving Trust's figures and this shows where they got the  £610 figure from : it's the typical insulation cost for a detached home.

The important step of selecting 'Energy bill saving' from the drop down menu reveals the more modest figures.

The IAA state that Cavity wall insulation 'Lasts the lifetime of the property (if the property is maintained)' where as Ofgem have consistently stated 42 years.

It begs the question though : If a family cannot afford to maintain the property for e.g reasons of fuel poverty or illness then surely they shouldn't be offered a measure that is so sensitive to failure where even a overflowing roof gutter could invalidate the guarantee and leave them with the task of funding their own extraction or else living with damp.

They also don't include the cost and poor success rate of extraction and of the catastrophic mode of failure of mineral wool CWI - e.g if there are floods and the CWI is soaked through, it has to be extracted and you had better hope your house insurance covers it because the guarantee doesn't.

Attention to detail is important and someone senior at The IAA would have signed this web page off.  What hope do we have for their 'retofit co-ordinator' service if they can't even get the cost of the only measure they have experience with right.

  1. What? So if my gutter leaks then my guarantee is worthless. Sounds like a con 2 me!

  2. Thank you for all of the valuable information on this blog. CWI on principle is a good thing, but the government mind is not set on helping people nor the environment, still allowing the scam to continue after so many years of scandals.
